Fucoidan Supplementation Improves Exercise Performance and Exhibits Anti-Fatigue Action in Mice

Abstract: Fucoidan (FCD) is a well-known bioactive constituent of seaweed extract that possess a wide spectrum of activities in biological systems, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammation and modulation of immune systems. However, evidence on the effects of FCD on exercise performance and physical fatigue is limited. Therefore, we investigated the potential beneficial effects of FCD on ergogenic and anti-fatigue functions following physiological challenge. Male ICR mice from three groups (n = 8 per group) were orally a… Show more

“…In general, serum creatine kinase concentration is lower in the normal state. At the site of hypoxia and strenuous exercise, creatine kinase activity increases, which results in the reduction of exercise performance . Thus excessive production of LDH and creatine kinase leads to muscle damage and promotes the generation of fatigue .…”

“…To date, relatively few studies have directly addressed the antifatigue activity of L-arginine, L-glutamine, vitamin C, vitamin E, folic acid, and green tea extract complex (LVFG). In the current study, we used our established in vivo platform [21,22] to evaluate the effects of LVFG supplementation on antifatigue activities and serum nitric oxide levels.…”
