“…Furthermore, it was reported that the pairing effect between the ion-dopants led to the appearance of a solid solution in Er 3+ -doped TiO 2 sol-gel layer [32]. Erbium ion doping might be more favorable to the separation of photoinduced electron-hole pairs, which would lead to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity [33].…”

“…To further study the interface, the BE spectra of Ti 2p, O 1s, and Si 2p signals at the interface were analyzed and are shown in Figures 2b-d, respectively. After deconvolution, the Ti 2p 2p3/2 spectra have three peaks, which are associated with TiO (454.7 eV), Ti2O3 (457 eV), and TiO2 (458.7 eV) [22], indicating that oxygen is deficient in the TiO2 film. The O1s spectra also have three peaks, which are associated with TiO2 (530.3 eV), oxygendeficient TiO2 (531.1 eV), and SiO2 (532.2 eV) [22,23].…”

The oxygen deficiency implies the existence of Ti dangling bonds, which cause gap states in the LPD-TiO2 film.…”

“…It is known that the large surface area is an important contribution to its excellent activity because it can absorb more oxygen and molecular water. Second, the hydroxyl content in the films obtained with the addition of SDBS is greater than that without the use of SDBS (as shown in Table 2), the increase of the hydroxyl content on the surface of TiO 2 is beneficial to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity [28]. The third factor is that the relative content of anatase increases with the increasing concentration of SDBS.…”
