Fruiting and quality attributes of cambui (Myrciaria floribunda (West ex Willd.) O. Berg in the Atlantic Forest of northeast Brazil

Abstract: Cambuizeiro is a fruit native to the Atlantic Forest biome that has potential for ornamental use and for human consumption, either raw or processed, due to the organoleptic characteristics of its fruits. Accordingly, the study objective was to evaluate the fruiting periods and quality attributes of two types of cambuizeiros, differentiated by fruit color. The plants studied were from a natural population from the Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros Experimental Station, in the municipality of Itaporanga d’Ajuda, stat… Show more

“…Rumberry fruits had a pH from 3.35 to 3.99, with an average value of 3.74, with no significant difference between the accesses studied (Table 1). These values were similar to those reported in fruits of the same species [1], whereas in fruits of the same genus, a pH of 2.41 was reported [18].…”

“…The fruits of accesses AC67, AC92, and AC160 showed the lowest values in terms of fruit weight, pulp weight, and a number of seeds. The study by Rodrigues et al [14] obtained an average for the weight of the fruit (2.87 g), pulp weight (1.29 g), and seed weight (0.49 g) higher than those reported in the present study, while the number of seeds remained equal, containing one to two seeds per fruit [1].…”

“…The rumberry tree is a fruit tree that grows naturally in a wide range of environments, distributed throughout Northeast and Northern South America and Central America. In Brazil, this species can be found in the Atlantic Forest biome in the Northeastern region, more abundantly in the states of Alagoas and Sergipe [3]. The Rumbery's trees are shrub or tree that has potential for ornamental use.…”
