From survey to HBIM for documentation, dissemination and management of built heritage: The case study of St. Maria in Scaria d'Intelvi

Abstract: The research presented here is the result of two related theses, carried out in collaboration between PoliMi, (Italy) and NTUA, (Greece). Part of it is carried out within the INTERREG EU project framework, which aims to the valuation and dissemination of the role of the Church of S.Maria di Scaria (Vall' Intelvi) in the international European exchange of skills in the past centuries. It mainly focuses on the Carloni's intervention (XVIII century), a local family of craftsmen, famous across many European cities… Show more

“…Brumana et al, 2013 [103], Fai & Sydor, 2013 [104], and D'Auria et al, 2014 [105] have all used a similar workflow to link point clouds with the BIM Autodesk Revit platform. Their main topic is to define or to separate the components to be modeled, depending on their typology, hierarchy, and material.…”

“…The model becomes absolutely comprehensible from all individuals that participate in its construction while at the same time provides the possibility of important utilities during building life-cycle (Brumana et al, 2013). The systems which are using BIM technology differ from the 3D CAD because are "smarter" and can present the information more detailed; contained information and data for the whole "construction project" such as: drawings, structural elements, mechanical systems, materials" measurements, data suppliers, scheduling and financial data.…”

“…The aim of the research was also to designate the potential BIM platform when used for energy analysis with the appropriate tools for life-cycle building management and energy efficiency. Finally, the research applied the Building Performance Analysis with collaboration of BIM platform and Autodesk"s web-based energy analysis software the Green Building Studio (Brumana et al, 2013). “…The first relates to the process of converting survey data into parametric elements and how the model is semantically parsed and decomposed, inserting a separation in an element that by its nature does not exist, whilst the second relates to the definition of BIM use [18] that will heavily influence the modeling stage. The issue of accuracy in the modeling phase has been widely discussed in the literature [2,19,20]. The general opinion is that it is necessary to declare the "level of deviation" from the point cloud, adding this information to produce a texture that represents the distance from reality.…”
