From strings in 6d to strings in 5d

Abstract: Abstract:We show how recent progress in computing elliptic genera of strings in six dimensions can be used to obtain expressions for elliptic genera of strings in five-dimensional field theories which have a six-dimensional parent. We further connect our results to recent mathematical results about sheaf counting on ruled surfaces.

“…Another extension of the current work is to study the quantum curve which arises in the refined topological string partition function for the elliptic Calabi-Yau manifolds. In the NS-limit the curve is expected to capture information about BPS magnetic strings [35,36]. More generally, the q-deformed and qq-deformed Seiberg-Witten curves of 6d D n LSTs and corresponding SCFTs, are obtained from their codimension-4 half-BPS defect partition functions [37,38].…”

“…Let us also notice that E-strings BPS state counting in terms of elliptic genera can be realized as twisted N = 4 partition functions [53][54][55]. These partition functions enjoy interesting and non-trivial modular properties [56].…”

“…Finally, there has recently been a lot of progress in computing the elliptic genera of strings in six-dimensional superconformal field theories [46][47][48][49][50][51][52][53] and also the elliptic genera of strings in five-dimensional superconformal field theories [54,55]. It would be interesting to see if our prescription can be applied to such computation.…”
