Efficient public participation results in the effective implementation of plans, policies, and programs since the proposals are best-reviewed, suggested and accepted by the public. However, in a heterogeneous society like India, where there are a wide array of individuals, communities, and social groups creating enabling methods for public participation is still difficult for city-level development authorities. The paper aims to ascertain the current state of public participation while formulating Urban Development Plans, focusing across three Indian cities. It argues that the current practices of involving the public are limited to stakeholder consultation primarily comprising of expert groups where no robust methods exist to capture the say of the common public during the formulation of the development plan for the city. The analysis reveals that the inclusion of citizens and the implementation of a suitable participatory method amongst the three selected case studies still pose a question since the primary approach is inviting the influential stakeholders for suggestions. The research paper also brings in arguments from literature for how public participation aids the development process. An exploration of few approaches for public participation is also discussed along with considering the challenges of implementation in the Indian context.

Social housing residents' community participation under the impact of lease period restrictions

Community participation is the foundation of a community's healthy environment and sustainable development. Social housing can provide people without their own homes and underprivileged groups with more secure conditions to live and work and thereby realize housing justice and reduce social vulnerability. In terms of community management, residents' engagement in community affairs can dramatically reduce the subsequent burden of environmental maintenance and community management, which encourage residents in the community to actively pass on the habit of maintenance and to collectively create resilient and sustainable communities. However, lease term restrictions in Taiwan's social housing policy stipulates that ordinary tenants can only rent the house for 6 years at a maximum and tenants with special conditions for 12. This study attempts to understand whether lease term restrictions affect residents' willingness to participate in community affairs. In addition, we also try to find out how to motivate residents to participate in community construction under the existence of lease term restrictions. The scope of this study focuses on citizens who qualified to rent social housing in the Greater Taipei area (including Taipei City and New Taipei). We designed a questionnaire for our target audience, tested its reliability and validity and picked random-selected samples to finish the questionnaire. Analyzing from the perspective of Egoism, we find out that the result of this research shows that residents do not commonly avoid participation in community affairs. Although lease term restrictions do have some effects on residents' willingness to participate, they are still willing to participate since issues of safety and environmental quality have a direct impact on their lives. However, the residents' chief consideration is how time spent in participation affects one's time. Also, though substantial returning benefit is not the main consideration when deciding whether to participate, it does effectively boost residents' willingness. Furthermore, community member relations is found to have a positive correlation with their willingness to participate.

This study aims to explore the understanding of the role of local government in regional development planning, which in this study uses the literature review method, namely by reviewing articles in previous studies so that they can provide an overview of how the role of local governments in regional development planning is, these data are obtained through the Scopus database and processed using the VOSviewer application. This research will focus on explaining how the role of local government in regional development planning. The role of local government in regional development planning is a government with a very strategic authority and position. This is related to its function as a public service provider to improve welfare, prosperity, and peace for the community. Regional development planning is an activity to be carried out in the future, in this case starting from several stages of the program preparation process and activities that involve various elements in it. This research shows that the role of local governments is to play an important role in planning housing development in an area, managing and coordinating the development of destinations in contemporary society, building an active role in institutionalizing urban resilience, developing the tourism sector in an area, and having an important role in planning to accelerate urban development. extracting integrated theories and methods for community development and planning at each location in an area.
