"Friend Park"-expression of the wind and the scent on virtual space

Abstract: In this paper, we describe a 3D virtual space system named "Friend Park" that gives users a more definite sense of reality. With this system, users are able to get reality by gaining the information of the smell in the virtual space. Also, the new input method that this system support makes the users sense the reality better. First, we propose the general idea of "Aroma", the area of "Aroma Aura", and the method of transmitting the actual smell from a virtual space to real world. Second, to perform a natural w… Show more

“…In other words, the range which the smell reaches is a sphere as shown in Figure 4. The sphere is called the smell space [19] (corresponds to the aroma aura in [20]). When the viewpoint of a player enters the smell space of a fruit, the smell of the fruit is diffused by SyP@D2.…”

“…Let denote the RBF output for input and let the error be denoted by (1) where, is j-th element of center vector , is j-th element of weight and is j-th element of width at time n. The RBF-SG algorithm adapts the network parameters according to the following equations (2) and (3) [7]. In (2) and (3),…”

“…The odors are related to the text information, pictures, audio and video clips on the PC. In [2], methods on the expression of the odor on virtual space have been studied. Future multimedia communication systems like mobile phones equipped with odor sensors can be developed to collect, identify, transmit and provide extra sensory information of odor besides voice and image.…”
