Frequency measurement of the 6P3/27S1/2transition of thallium

Abstract: The saturated absorption spectrum of the 6P 3/2 → 7S 1/2 transition of 203 Tl and 205 Tl in a hollow cathode lamp has been observed with a frequency-doubled 1070 nm Nd : GdVO 4 laser. The third-derivative spectrum of the hyperfine components are obtained using the wavelength modulation spectroscopy and used to stabilize the laser frequency. The analysis of the error signal shows that the frequency stability reaches 30 kHz at 1 s averaging time. Such a frequency-stabilized light source at 535 nm can be used for… Show more

“…The systematic error of this absolute frequency due to the asymmetrical profile was <3 MHz. The measured transition frequencies of 6P 3/2 → 7S 1/2 using the atomic beam and a wavemeter were in good agreement with the Doppler free saturation spectroscopy [42]. In the χ measurement, we utilized computer feedback control to stabilize the coupling laser frequency for ∆ c = 0 by forwarding the wavemeter output.…”

“…In a previous experiment [22], direct Doppler-broadened absorption spectroscopy was employed, and two different transitions overlapped because the linewidth was as large as ∼400 MHz. The EIT technique narrowed the profile linewidth down to 75 MHz, which is much smaller than the 6P 3/2 state hyperfine splitting, 531 (30) MHz [42].…”

“…We believe that further power scaling is possible owing to the good thermo-optical properties of the Nd:GdVO 4 crystal and low quantum defect pumping employed in this work. Such multi-wavelength lasers can have potential applications in optical pumping of helium [7,8] or similar molecular and atomic studies [3][4][5][6], and are attractive for mode locking [27,35,36] and nonlinear frequency conversion through second harmonic, Raman or optical parametric generation [37][38][39][40][41][42][43]. a Observed only at one specific pump power level.…”

“…Apart from the main emission wavelength at 1063 nm, the emission spectrum of Nd:GdVO 4 includes several other emission bands at 1071 nm, 1083 nm, and 1086 nm as shown in figure 1(a). These lines or their frequency doubled versions (535-543 nm) have numerous applications in various areas of molecular and atomic studies [3][4][5][6][7][8] as well as medicine [9,10]. Therefore, development of high power and efficient lasers at these wavelengths is important.…”

“…Green lasers at 535 nm have special applications in physical and medical fields such as investigation of the parity non-conservation effect, medical treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids, and so on [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The possible way to obtain 535 nm green laser emission is the frequency doubling of 1070 nm laser emission.…”
