Frequency Analysis of Yield for Delineating Yield Response Zones

Abstract: The yield in any given field or management zone is a product of interaction between many soil properties and production inputs. Therefore, multi-year yield maps may give better insight into determining potential management zones. This research was conducted to develop a methodology to delineate yield response zones by using two-state frequency analysis conducted on yield maps for 3 years on two commercial corn fields near Wiggins, Colorado. A zone was identified by the number of years that yield was equal and … Show more

“…Once the maps have been constructed, various methodologies can be used for zonal delineation of a parcel using yield data from several years (Blackmore, 2000;Diker et al, 2004;Bocchi and Castrignanò, 2007). However, cluster analysis, used on a series of yield maps, is one of the most recommended classification methodologies to allow zoning at parcel level (Lark and Stafford, 1997;Lark, 1998;Panneton et al, 2001;Shatar and McBratney, 2001;Bramley and Hamilton, 2004;Ping and Dobermann, 2005;Taylor et al, 2007).…”

“…Either historical map-based or real-time sensor input based approaches may be used to delineate management zones. Field zoning for sitespecific agriculture has been successfully achieved by frequency analysis of multi-year yield data (Diker et al, 2004). Morphological and filtering tools can also be used in the delineation of management zones (Zhang & Taylor, 2000).…”
