Freeing Sweet and Sour Chery Trees from Prunus Necrotic Ringspot Virus by Injections of 2,4‐Dioxohexahydro‐1,3,5,‐triazine (DHT)

Abstract: After three injections of 1 ml of 0.01% DHT solutions under the cortex of the stems of 100% artificially or naturally with prunus necrotic ringspot virus infected sweet and sour cherry plants of 4 varieties axillary buds were grafted onto the indicator plant Shirofugen. 99% of these buds proved virus free. Contrary to this, only 28 to 32% of the buds from solvent injected control plants proved free of viruses. About 65% of the fruit‐trees grown up from buds of DHT treated plants were still virus free, when the… Show more

“…colchesteri. The effect of DHT on a relative wide spectrum of plant viruses has been reported extensively in many plant species, such as cherry, potato, and strawberry, and it is known that treatment reduced the concentration of viruses (Bittner et al, 1987;Bogusch et al, 1985;Borissenko et al, 1985;Kondakova and Schuster, 1991;Schuster et al, 1979). Xu et al (2000) demonstrated that the application of DHT or Virazole reduces the CMV and LSV infection rate in L. longiflorum, and the eradicable effect of DHT on CMV and LSV is higher than that of Virazole (Xu et al, 2000).…”
