“…The total soluble sugar and soluble protein contents were estimated as described by Wang et al [2001]. The free amino acid content was determined according to the method of Aragão et al [2015], whereas the content of reducing sugars was measured according to the standard AOAC methods 939.03 [AOAC, 1995].…”

“…During germination, proteins stored in seeds are broken down into amino acids, and this hydrolysis releases high levels of ammonium used in the growth of the plantlet (Limami et al 2002). Studies of woody tree species show changes in their amino acid profiles during the processes of seed development (Astarita et al 2003a;Santa-Catarina et al 2006) and germination (Dias et al 2009;Pieruzzi et al 2011;Sasaki et al 2013;Aragão et al 2015), suggesting that amino acids participate in these processes.…”

“…The present results are in agreement with these reported by Sibian et al (2017) who found the essential amino acids such as lysine, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, threonine, Isoleucine, phenylalanine and valine and the non-essential ones, which include serine, proline, aspartic acid, alanine and glycine had shown a significant increase during germination; however, the increments in the studied grains were different. Aragao et al (2015) recorded significant differences in the concentrations of each amino acid throughout the days of seed imbibition of Cedrela fissilis . The changes in amino acids pattern might be provided these amino acids by the mobilization of stored proteins in mature seeds.…”
