Fractures of angle of mandible – A retrospective study

Abstract: Aims: This retrospective study was done to evaluate the efficacy of single miniplate osteosynthesis at superior border of angle of mandible. Material and methods:In this study 50 patients were treated by single miniplate osteosynthesis according to Champy's principle. Bite force generated was used as a parameter for judging the efficacy of internal fixation. In this article we present our experience over the years in the management of the fractures of angle of mandible based on this model. Results: Most patient… Show more

“…There is a high complication rate and the fracture only can rarely be adequately reduced by simple intermaxillary fixation. Therefore, the primary technique is open reduction [ 4 ]. In this study, except with those unsuitable for surgery, all patients were treated by open reduction.…”

“…Other pertinent factors are the biomechanical characteristics of the mandible, bone density, and the pathologic state of the bone [ 3 ]. Because it is difficult to fix with intermaxillary fixation, open reduction is universal [ 4 ].…”

“…Bilateral fractures of the mandibular angle are described as a “rare traumatic event.”1 However, the rarity is often obscured by the enormous literature on unilateral angle fractures 234567. Bilateral angle fractures may be observed concomitantly with pan facial fractures, where the impacting force is severe, but its isolated occurrence is unusual.…”
