Fractional Photothermolysis: A Review and Update

Abstract: Fractional resurfacing is a new laser treatment modality that creates numerous microscopic thermal injury zones of controlled width, depth, and density that are surrounded by a reservoir of spared epidermal and dermal tissue, allowing for rapid repair of laser-induced thermal injury. This unique modality, if implemented with proper laser-delivery systems, enables high-energy treatments while minimizing risks. In this article, we review the various fractional laser devices, including the new fractional ablative… Show more

“…The treatment settings used in this study were based on clinical experience and established from recommended parameters for acne scarring and photoaging [6,10,11]. We used a range of fluencies from 70 to 100 mJ/microbeam and from a safety concern, applied the lowest dose at first treatment session with increasing doses at consecutive treatments.…”

“…Their efficacy for different clinical tasks had been demonstrated in a number of studies [65][66][67][68][69]. Non-ablative FP is an effective method of smoothing wrinkles, skin lifting (tightening), general enhancement of the state of the skin, and in the treatment of pigmentation disorders and atrophic scars.…”
