FPGA-based multi-phase digital pulse width modulator with dual-edge modulation

Abstract: This paper proposes a new FPGA-based architecture for a multi-phase digital pulse width modulator (MP-DPWM). A novel fine-leading/coarse-trailing edge modulation is applied to allow the sharing of a single fine resolution block for all phases.

“…A lot of works are presented in order to improve the robustness of DC-DC [1]- [10]. Many advanced digital control methods, such as digital PWM controller [11][12][13][14], Auto-tuning control [15][16][17] and Robust LQR Control[],are introduced into DC-DC converter which is based on micro-controller, programmable logic device. Traditional linear control methods, which are small-signal-based [6], for DC-DC converter neglect nonlinearities which may result in deteriorated output signal or unstable behavior in presence of large perturbations [18].…”

“…On the other hand, some recent works address the implementation of multiphase digital modulators in order to apply interleaving in parallel multiconverter arrangement, [15,16]. However, the combined application of interleaving and SFM techniques is an open research field.…”
