Fourth-derivative spectrophotometric determination of fungicide ferbam (iron(III) dimethyldithiocarbamate) in a commercial sample and wheat grains using 2,2′-bipyridyl

Abstract: A procedure has been developed for the direct fourth-derivative spectrophotometric determination of iron(III) dimethyldithiocarbamate by converting it into an iron(II) 2,2'-bipyridyl complex, which is then dissolved in Triton X-100. Beer's law is obeyed over the concentration range 0.5-20 microg mL(-1 )in the final solution. Various parameters such as the effect of pH and interference of large number of ions on the determination of ferbam have been studied in detail. The method is sensitive, highly selective a… Show more

“…1,2-dihydroxy-benzene-3,5-disulfonic acid (Tiron) (Scheme 1) has not previously been used for the spectrophotometric determination of iron. The method possesses distinct advantages over existing methods [13][14][15][16][17][18] with respect to sensitivity, selectivity, range of determination, simplicity, speed, pH/acidity range, thermal stability, accuracy, precision, and ease of operation. A comparison between existing methods [13][14][15][16][17][18] and the present method is shown in Table 1.…”

“…Derivative spectrophotometric methods were widely used for the analysis of pharmaceutical drugs, this technique is required less time for the analysis, cheaper and easily applied to analysis of pharmaceutical and raw material. The zero order spectra that have the similar linear relationship between absorbance of the solutions and the corresponding concentration for all orders of derivative [14,15]: "A=Є BC" …. For zero order…”

“…HGC and EV are time consuming, poor sensitive and suffer from interferences. Dithiocarbamates can also be determined by other methods such as iodometry 11 , EDTA 12 , polarography 13 , determination of the pesticides as their metallic components [14][15] , derivative spectrophotometry 16 , RESEARCH ARTICLE spectrophotometry 17 , H-Point method 18 , silica nanoparticles 19 , chitin 20 , naphthalene 21 , flow injection spectrophotometry 22 . All of the above mentioned methods suffer from one or more disadvantages: (a) Methods other than gas chromatography (GC) are indirect and time consuming, and their sensitivity is quite low.…”
