Four-terminal-pair capacitance characterization at frequencies up to 30 MHz using resonance frequencies

Abstract: A new approach is proposed for the characterization of Agilent 16380A-type four-terminal-pair (4TP) air dielectric capacitance standards, which in the present study ranged from 1 pF to 1000 pF up to 30 MHz. The main objective is to determine all residual parameters of the four-terminal-pair capacitor (C4TP) defined in previous investigations. The key feature of this study is to find all resonance frequencies of C4TP up to 500 MHz using 4TP impedance and admittance values calculated from scattering parameter me… Show more

“…A summary of the changes in the capacitance ratios between 1 MHz and 1 kHz obtained with the HF bridge is presented in table 4 The same 16380A set was calibrated earlier by the Smatrix method [18]. The first comparison of our results with the results of this method (published in [19]), with the results of a resonance method [20] and with the data from the calibration report provided by Agilent and obtained by the Zmatrix method [21] has shown good agreement for all ratios. For comparison, table 4 includes relative change in the ratio of capacitance evaluated from results published in [19] and [20].…”

“…Several NMIs have conducted research activities on high‐frequency impedance standards such as AC resistance, inductance, and capacitance, which can be used up to 200 MHz. In these NMIs, the frequency characteristics of four‐terminal‐pair coaxial impedance standards have been analyzed . In addition, realization of coaxial reference air lines as a high frequency capacitance standard has been studied to provide calibration services .…”
