Four Examples of Anti‐TSEN and Three of TSEN‐Positive Erythrocytes

Abstract: Based on the estimated number of screening events with C873 RBCs, the incidence of anti-TSEN is approximately 1 in 20,000 sera. The antibody is found in patients with and without documented exposure to allogeneic RBCs. All known examples of anti-TSEN are IgG, but their clinical significance is not known.

“…1,4 TSEN+ RBCs are usually found because of a discrepant S typing or by detection of an antibody to a low-prevalence antigen. 2,5,6 Extremely rare people have RBCs with a double dose of TSEN and have made an antibody to a high-prevalence MNS antigen. 7,8 We report a person who is heterozygous for GYP.JL and M k (the null allele in the MNS system).…”

“…One other example has been reported [371] and a few more examples are now known. Five examples of anti -TSEN have been reported, four of them by screening sera from 80 000 donors [301,311] .Only a single example anti -MINY is reported [302] .…”
