Formulation and Evaluation of Wound Healing Gel of White Leadtree (Leucaena Leucocephala (Lam.) De Wit.) Leaves Extract

Abstract: Objective: The aim of this research is to formulate and evaluate the wound healing gel of Leucaena leucocephala leaves extract. Methods: In this research, the extract of Leucaena leaves was formulated into wound healing gel by using a variation of the concentration of Carbopol as a gelling agent and Propylene glycol as a humectant. Afterward, the gel's physical properties (pH, viscosity, spreadability), stability, and sterility were tested. The wound healing activity was evaluated by making excision wounds on … Show more

“…The other essential factors are the viscosity and spreadability of the nanoemulgel preparations. These two factors affect the retention time of the trial and application to the skin area, which will impact the therapy's effectiveness [29]. The viscosity measurement was done on day one, three, and six after nanoemulgel preparation.…”

“…The spreadability of nanoemulgel was measured 24 h after preparation. In this test, 1 gram of gel was placed in the middle of a glass plate and given a weight of 150 grams combined, allowed to stand for 1 min, then the diameter of the distribution was measured with a caliper [28,29].…”

“…A gelling agent will form a gel matrix. At the same time, a humectant will maintain the stability of gel preparation by absorbing moisture and reducing water evaporation in the gel to overcome syneresis [13,14]. One of the humectants frequently used for gel preparation is propylene glycol (PG).…”
