Organizational competences are one of the main assets of companies. Models of these competences would allow for systematic reasoning for exploring technological innovations, enabled by combining and transposing organizational competences. Today, the literature linking organizational competencies to engineering design and systems engineering remains limited. In particular, a generic modelling approach for organizational competencies for engineering design and systems engineering seems to be missing, although first frameworks have been proposed for specific purposes. This paper presents a generic conceptual model of organizational competences. The objective is to link technology, product, and systems development with the corresponding organizational competencies and their future evolution in order to allow for a joint design of competencies and technologies, products, or systems. The conceptual model provides the basis for a competence combination framework which allows for modeling competence combinations in an organization. Finally, we validate our conceptual model using a case study from the automotive industry.

The current requirements of software are intensively based on load sharing, on-demand services, cascading requirements, redundancy for reliability and executing on heterogeneous environments. It needs precise architectural details for development of such software systems. These are large scale software systems with complex interactions amongst the constituent components. Testing for performance and conformance to quality requires perspective modeling fordesigning critical systems. The analysis of these systems is focused on dynamic or execution time behavior for achieving quality. In the same context, this paper redefines Functional Flow Specification for dynamic analysis of critical and collaborating systems. Functional Flow based modeling is a mature concept in the domain of system engineering but is rarely applicable to software systems. Functional Flow Block Reliability Diagram (FFBRD) is a notation for abstract view of the system evolution and interactions. This adopts the specification format of UML and system modeling conventions of SysML specially Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD). The flow of data and control are so designed that it best suits the approaches for quality analysis like system reliability. The method proposed is System Reliability with UML or SR-UML for generating test through FFBRD. It also caters to the need of designing software in a familiar formalization for extending, translating and simulating with existing algorithms. From the results collected through various scenarios, we can conclude that SR-UML is instrumental in process improvement of current software development methods

The modelling of complex workflows is an important problem-solving technique within healthcare settings. However, currently most of the workflow models use a simplified flow chart of patient flow obtained using on-site observations, group-based debates and brainstorming sessions, together with historic patient data. This paper presents a systematic and semi-automatic methodology for knowledge acquisition with detailed process representation using sequential interviews of people in the key roles involved in the service delivery process. The proposed methodology allows the modelling of roles, interactions, actions, and decisions involved in the service delivery process. This approach is based on protocol generation and analysis techniques such as: (i) initial protocol generation based on qualitative interviews of radiology staff, (ii) extraction of key features of the service delivery process, (iii) discovering the relationships among the key features extracted, and, (iv) a graphical representation of the final structured model of the service delivery process. The methodology is demonstrated through a case study of a magnetic resonance (MR) scanning service-delivery process in the radiology department of a large hospital. A set of guidelines is also presented in this paper to visually analyze the resulting process model for identifying process vulnerabilities. A comparative analysis of different workflow models is also conducted.
