Forests of Michigan, 2015

Abstract: The fate of forests lies primarily in the hands of those who own and control the land. There are significant opportunities to help family forest owners increase their engagement and stewardship. Projects such as Tools for Engaging Landowners Effectively (http://www.engaginglandowners.org) can help the conservation community develop and implement assistance programs more effectively and efficiently.

Michigan is estimated to have approximately 375,000 family forest owners and nearly half own less than ten wooded acres [5].…”
