Empirical evidence about the educational outcomes of travel is scattered across many fields of study. This paper reviews the literature on the educational benefits of travel, beginning with the literature on study abroad. Learning outcomes have been found from the travel portion of the study experience, and some research has found that out-of-class experiences were the most impactful portion of study abroad. Personal growth, increase in life skills, and knowledge also result from independent international travel, as well as “objectiveless” travel. A few studies have focused on adults and seniors, but the research primarily has focused on young adults and college students. After a review of the literature, numerous suggestions for future study are provided, including a focus on the educational outcomes of domestic travel, youth travel, and determining which travel experiences result in the most learning benefits.

International students are becoming a significant part of global mobility. Studies from different parts of the world have shown they not only have impacts on education but also contribute to tourism. They make up a distinctive group of international tourists characterized by travelling frequency, types of tourist activities, accommodation preferences, levels of expenditure and potentials of attracting visits of friends and relatives. In other words, international tourists not only directly contribute to but could also have long term impact on the destination country's tourism. As Vietnam has proactively engage in international integration in higher education, which would result in an increase in the influx of international students, an exploratory study on this group of potential tourists is needed. Based on researches from different countries this article identifies features of international students in conducting tourist activities before proposing recommendations for more effective engagement in this group of clients with the highlights of the role of Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) and linkages among higher education institutions in Ho Chi Minh City Metropolitan Area and the Mekong Delta.

Economic impact of language tourism on mature sun and sand destinations: The case of Alicante (Spain)

The objective of this research is to measure the economic impact of language tourism in a medium-sized Spanish city, Alicante, which has been traditionally considered a sun and sand destination on the Mediterranean coast. This analysis aims to highlight the importance of developing a tourism diversification strategy and the desirability of promoting alternative forms of tourism. This investigation demonstrates the significant economic impact that language tourism has on a consolidated tourism destination as Alicante, which is higher, in relative terms, than the impact generated by conventional tourism. Based on the findings, the implications of the study are also discussed.
