Food Preference, Fecundity, Proximate Analysis on Eggs and Meat of Turbo crassus (W. Wood 1828) and Turbo setosus (Gmelin 1791) in Sepanjang Beach, Gunungkidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta

Abstract: Turbo snails have important roles in the ecosystem as prey for predators, and decomposition of dead objects, and it is starting to decrease. This is quite worrying so that conservation efforts must be carried out immediately. Turbo snail species found in Sepanjang Beach, Gunungkidul are Turbo crassus and Turbo setosus. The aims of this study were to determine food preferences, the relationship between body size and fecundity, analyze egg quality based on proximate levels of the two species, and meat proximate … Show more

“…Turban snails (Turbinidae) are generalist herbivores that can attain large sizes and dense aggregations (Foster & Hodgson, 1998; Grange, 1976; Kikutani et al, 2002; Mazariegos‐Villarreal et al, 2017; Smoothey, 2013). Turban snails are a popular target for human consumption as they are easily collected using minimal skill or fishing gear and have high‐quality meat (Ab Lah et al, 2017; Romolo & Trijoko, 2021). These favourable characteristics can result in high harvesting pressure; however, effective regulation requires biological data, which are often deficient.…”
