Follow-up after acute Pulmonary Embolism

Abstract: SummaryIn addition to among others major bleeding from anticoagulant therapy and recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE), patients who survived acute pulmonary embolism (PE) face an increased risk of chronic functional limitations and decreased quality of life. In recent years, this latter complications have been better framed within the evolving definition of “post-PE syndrome” of which chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) represents the most extreme presentation. The post-PE syndrome in all i… Show more

“…Third, PE mortality was highest among older adults in both high‐ and low‐income states, which highlights the paucity of higher‐quality thrombosis management studies in the elderly. Finally, in addition to abating the burden of VTE‐associated death, broad improvements in the management of VTE will also benefit VTE survivors suffering from the long‐term limitations and symptoms collectively referred to as “post‐VTE syndrome.” 40 …”

“…Finally, in addition to abating the burden of VTE-associated death, broad improvements in the management of VTE will also benefit VTE survivors suffering from the long-term limitations and symptoms collectively referred to as "post-VTE syndrome." 40 Although the GBD 2019 does not report data for VTE as a specific cause of death and disability, 14 VTE is responsible for a substantial burden of disease across the globe. The WHO patient safety program 14 found that VTE accounted for more deaths than any other hospital-acquired disease in low-, middle-, and high-income states.…”

“…Частота ХТЭЛГ после симптоматической ТЭЛА варьирует от 0,1% до 11,8%, в большинстве исследований -2-4%. Применение для диагностики ХТЭЛГ в опубликованных исследованиях только ЭхоКГ в 3 раза увеличивает частоту суждений о наличии данного осложнения после ТЭЛА [33].…”

“…Post-PE syndrome (or post-PE impairment) is emerging as an important late complication of acute PE that affects the perceived burden of disease, risk of recurrence, quality of life, and healthcare expenditures 45 . It is defined as the combination of clinical, imaging, and haemodynamic signs of functional impairment that are highly prevalent in PE survivors.…”
