Fluorometric determination of microgram amounts of meperidine

Abstract: very lean flame, rapid closure of the fuel valve produced no flashback. However, if the flame is left running for any length of time under these reduced flow conditions, localized overheating may cause damage to the burner. The 50-mm long-path nitrous oxide-acetylene flame shows a very stable CN emission region for some 20 mm above the burner head. Inert gas sheathing again extends the size and shape of this reducing region. The stability and intensity of the CN emission was measured just above the primary react… Show more

“…A method for methadone was based on condensation with formaldehyde in sulfuric acid, yielding a fluorophore with 270 nm excitation peak and 450 nm emission peak (596). Meperidine interferes because it undergoes a similar reaction with formaldehyde, and can itself be assayed at 425 nm under 275 nm excitation (210).…”

“…Procedures available for the analysis of pethidine in plasma include the colourimetric technique of Burns et al (1955), fluorimetric assay (Dal Cortivo et al, 1970) and the gas chromatographic (GC) methods (Beckett & Tayler, 1967;Goehl & Davison, 1973;Knowles e f al., 1973;Szeto & Inturrisi, 1976). Many of these procedures are associated with problems of one kmd or another.…”

“…This should be true of many other bases as well. Dal Cortivo et al (3) developed a fluorometric assay for meperidine, but a lower limit again of only 0.3 mcg./ml. was established.…”
