Flotability Improvement of Ilmenite Using Attrition-Scrubbing as a Pretreatment Method

Abstract: Flotation technology of the recovery and utilization of ilmenite from tailings of iron beneficiated in Panzhihua was investigated based on mineralogical study. The results of mineralogical study show that the main occurrence of the valuable mineral are liberated grains of ilmenite. Experimental results of flotation conditions show that attrition-scrubbing raw ores exhibit good flotability with higher recoveries and a slight decrease in grade compared to ores without attrition-scrubbing. Further, open-circuit e… Show more

“…Chemical separation techniques include calcination/roasting and leaching using oxalic acid and an ammonia solution. Separation techniques that combine chemical and physical separation techniques include sequential calcination or roasting followed by magnetic separation [90][91][92][93][94]. These techniques are discussed based on researchers' contributions to the processing of low-grade pyrophyllite ore.…”

“…During the flotation process, reagents play conclusive roles in modifying the surface properties to promote their floatability. On an industrial production scale, the frequently used collectors in ilmenite flotation are fatty acids and their soaps, along with fuel oils [21,22]. Fatty acids and hydroxymates are usually used as collectors to float anatase, and the performance of hydroxymates is superior to fatty acids [23,24].…”

“…Bench-scale flotation tests were performed in an XFD type flotation cell (self-aeration) of which the volume for rougher flotation and cleaner flotation were 1.5 L and 1 L, respectively [41]. 500 g actual magnetite ores (−0.074 mm, 90%) were used in the rougher flotation with a speed of 1650 r/min.…”
