Flexural Performance of Emulsified‐Asphalt‐Modified ECC for Expansion Joint Use

Abstract: The concrete transition zone plays an important role in bridge expansion joint structure, which provides a good connection between the expansion joint installation and bridge decks. However, the premature deteriorations of concrete transition zone are found to be the major diseases of expansion joint during service life. Therefore, a material with high ductility, superior durability, and low modulus/stiffness is highly desired for transition zone. Engineering cementitious composites (ECC), a kind of high-perfo… Show more

“…Similarly, engineering cementitious composite (ECC) is also full of potential as the repair material in highway and bridge. ECC modified by emulsified asphalt (EA) can effectively reduce the impact of vehicle load since extending the service life of bridge expansion joint structure [8]. Double-layer concrete formed with ECC modified by polyvinyl alcohol fiber, mixed with a large amount of fly ash (FA), and steel fiber concrete showed good flexural and tensile properties, durability [9].…”
