Flexural Behavior of a Precast Concrete Deck Connected with Headed GFRP Rebars and UHPC

Abstract: Steel bent reinforcing bars (rebars) are widely used to provide adequate anchorage. Bent fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) rebars are rarely used because of the difficulty faced during the bending process of the FRP rebars at the construction site. Additionally, the bending process may cause a significant decrease in the structural performance of the FRP rebars. Therefore, to overcome these drawbacks, a headed glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar was developed in this study. The pull-out tests of the heade… Show more

“…It should be noted that reinforced concrete, with all its advantages, also has several disadvantages, which are expressed in the high cost of raw materials, such as reinforcing steel, and the large weight of the created structures, products and buildings [ 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. All this leads to the fact that modern scientists and engineers are developing, with a certain degree of success, new types of reinforcing elements, such as polymer composite reinforcement, which makes it possible to successfully solve the abovementioned tasks and problems [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. However, it should be noted that, as has already been proven by us and other authors earlier, it is certainly impossible to achieve a significant solution to the problem and eliminate all risk factors by improving the reinforcing elements alone [ 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ].…”

“…No papers were found in which GFRP bars with head anchorage were used as shear reinforcement. The pull-out tests [29,30] of this type of anchorage indicated a more plastic nature of failure, if the bar slipped from the anchor head. In view of the shortage of research, this article presents the results of experimental tests of short shear zones reinforced with GFRP stirrups and GFRP headed bars where the failure mechanism is determined by the failure of transverse reinforcement.…”
