Flatbed scanner image and single ultrasonic rangefinder technique for composite laminates defect detection

Abstract: Inspection of composite laminates in production line using Ultrasonic C-scan for NDT requires a competent and experience inspector in order to analyze the signal which involve various technical instruction. In this paper, two approaches had been used which are image based approach and signal based approach of ultrasonic C-Scan method for NDT of composite laminate are developed and applied, with the aim to compare and validate both techniques instead of surface defect percentage area. The idea is, to propose an… Show more

“…Jeong et al [27] applied this methodology in maritime images. Mahmod et al [28] studied a composite laminate panel with its ROIL of intensities through a defect area and a good area. But they have not applied it on the thermal images of composite laminates having de-bonds.…”

“…At last, the efficiency of the stepper motor roughly at 28 %. According to the previous researcher [4], the efficiency of the stepper motor is very low since the purpose for smooth motion and higher torque instead of speeding. So, it will show the load that attach on the thread of motor not effecting the performance itself.…”

“…In addition, T. Hasiotis et al [6] used Ultrasonic C-scan approach to determine artificial defect on laminated composite material. On the other hand M. F. Mahmod et al [7] compared an artificial defect of laminated composite material using both signal data acquisition and flatbed scanning result while T. Y. Lim et al [8] use flatbed scanning approach to measure the nose radius of cutting insert. The use of thermography on impacted glass fiber reinforced polymer also being studied by C. Meola et al [9] while some researcher used 3D laser vibrometry to locate delamination on composite plate as performed by W. J. Staszewski et al [10].…”
