Flame-retardant polyvinyl alcohol membrane with high transparency based on a reactive phosphorus-containing compound

Abstract: Flame-retardant polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) membranes with high transparency and flexibility were prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of a phosphorus-containing acrylic acid (AOPA) with PVA. The reaction between AOPA and PVA, the transparency, the crystallinity and the flexibility of the membrane were investigated with Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), UV–vis light transmittance, X-ray diffraction and tensile tests, respectively. The limited oxygen index (LOI) and vertical flame (UL 94 VTM), micro… Show more

“…This indicates that PP is connected to nitrogen atoms of triazine ring of melamine . The peaks at 1,618, 1,516, 1,400, 1,108, 1,049 cm −1 are referred to CC, CN, CH 2 , POC, and POH groups, respectively . The results of 1 H NMR and FTIR confirm that the reactants are interacted to form MPP‐G.…”

“…The Lewis salts triggering ABS to decompose at low temperature have been found in the tin-and zinc-based salts/ABS system [26]. Besides, the same catalytic effect was also observed in the aluminium salt of phosphinate-filled polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol [27], EP [28] and polyamide [29].…”

“…The patterns show strong crystalline reflections at around 2θ=19.92 and a shoulder at 22.74. The two peaks are characteristic of PVA representing reflections from (101) and (200) from monoclinic unit cells . It can be seen that the XRD patterns of the nanocomposite have the peaks corresponding to the semi‐crystalline nature of pure PVA .…”
