Five‐year results of fixed implant‐supported rehabilitations with distal cantilevers for the edentulous mandible

Abstract: Fixed implant-supported rehabilitation with distal cantilever resulted in a reliable treatment modality over the 5-year observation period. Although biological parameters of MPI, SBI, keratinized tissue and peri-implant mucosal levels showed statistically significant differences over time, the mean values for each patient remained within the normal limits of oral health. Complications were categorized as biological or technical. The majority of complications were technical complications (54/79) and of these mo… Show more

“…In general, the 5-year survival rate of implants is reported to be approximately 95.5%. [11] This rate is similar to the rates found in the two groups in the present study (99.6 and 100% in the control and test groups, respectively).…”

“…They concluded that under both definitions, completely compliant patients tended to have lower percentages of plaque and bleeding. [1120] In addition to these two assessments, total compliance was evaluated by combining the two assessments in the present study. While there was no significant difference in the percentage of maintenance visits when the test group was compared with the control group, there was a significant difference in the absence interval.…”

“…1,2 Some of the advantages of ICFPs are an increase in stability and retention, and a favorable cost-benefit ratio because these prostheses can be provided with a relatively small number of implants. 3 The original ICFP designs were characterized by the fabrication of the prosthesis over titanium abutments that emerged between 2 and 4 mm above the mucosal margin. 4 This design resulted in a substantial gap below the prosthesis to facilitate patient oral hygiene; however, it also led to esthetic and phonetic problems as well as food trapping.…”
