Five New Compounds from Dendrobium longicornu

Abstract: A novel bibenzyl, a new bibenzyl, two new phenanthrenes, and a new lignin glycoside, namely longicornuol A (1), 4-[2-(3-hdroxyphenol)-1-methoxyethyl]-2,6-dimethoxyphenol (2), 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene-1,4-dione (3), 7-methoxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene-2,4,5-triol (4) and erythro-1-(4-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-[4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy]-1,3-propanediol ( 5), together with 14 known compounds, were isolated from the stems of Dendrobium longicornu. All structures … Show more

“…1 Variety of its chemical constituents such as bibenzyls, phenanthrenes, lignin glycoside and phenolic compounds have been reported. 2,3 Besides these, biological activities of this plant have not been reported yet. Reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species, including singlet oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion, hydroxyl radical and nitrous oxide are often generated in the living organisms as byproducts of biological reaction, are known to play a vital role in oxidative cellular damaged.…”

“…Got CHCl3 soluble (70 g) isolated into five fractions (A-E) and got n-BuOH soluble (60 g) isolated into six fractions (I -VI) 4 were also reported. 4 Fraction B (5.2 g) from CHCl3 soluble was then applied to column chromatography over silica gel 3:1, v/v) to yield β-sitosterol. Fraction D (3.0 g) was applied to column chromatography over silica gel 7:3, v/v) and purified further on Sephadex LH-20 (Ø 2 × 120 cm, MeOH) to afford compound 1…”

“…Several Dendrobium species are used in traditional medicine as tonics to nourish the stomach, promote the production of body fluids and decrease fever (Ng et al, 2012;Xu et al, 2013). They produce a variety of secondary metabolites, such as phenolic compounds (Hu et al, 2010;Li et al, 2009a;Zhao et al, 2003), bibenzyl derivatives (Bi et al, 2004;Chen et al, 2010;Hu et al, 2008;Li et al, 2009bLi et al, , 2009cLi et al, , 2014Majumder et al, 1999;Majumder and Chatterjee, 1989), lignin glycosides and phenanthrenes (Hu et al, 2008), and alkaloids (Elander et al, 1973;Kierkegaard et al, 1970;Li et al, 2008;Venkateswarlu et al, 2002). Such metabolites are responsible for these species' wide variety of medicinal properties (Chand et al, 2016;Paudel et al, 2015Paudel et al, , 2017.…”
