“…However, the phylogenetic relationship of Rhiz odopsis is poorly understood amongst tetrapodomorph fishes. The only other members previously assigned to the Rhizodopsidae include Callistiopterus clappi Romer, 1942, a taxon described from a fragmentary juvenile specimen "whose adult form is hypothetical" (Andrews and Westoll, 1970) and Taeniolepis trautseholdi Chabakov, 1927, which is known from isolated teeth and scales (Lebedev, 1996). There has never been a detailed modern systematic description and diagnosis published for Rhiz odopsis, although partially complete skull material (e.g., Traquair, 1881;Säve-Söderbergh, 1936) and complete postcranial skeletons, including pectoral fin elements (e.g., Andrews and Westoll, 1970), are known.…”

“…The other, larger complete specimens (Fig. 9E–H) are more oval in outline, similar to Psephodus dentatus Romanovsky, 1864 illustrated by Lebedev (1996, fig. 14a–b), although P. dentatus has upper tubular dentine overhanging the base.…”

“…The aboral surface of the base is much smaller than that of the crown, but its edges follow the outline of the lat ter, especially in the labial margin and part of the lateral side, where the tooth plate edge is well preserved. The tooth plate is almost symmetrical and does not show a characteristic oblique twist, which is present for exam ple in Psephodus dentatus (Romanowsky, 1864) from the Tournaisian of Central Russia (Lebedev, 1996). The bilateral nature of the specimen on Pl.…”
