“…The improved American reactors were each designed to produce approximately 500 bbl/day of liquid fuel-a considerable improvement over the German fixed bed reactors that had a capacity of 18 bbl/day per reactor (10). New discoveries of oil in the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East decreased the U.S. government's interest in synthetic fuels via coal gasification, and consequently operation of the demonstration plant in Missouri ended in 1953.
