First report of Beet soil‐borne virus on sugar beet in China

Abstract: Prevalence of yam potyviruses in the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe was evaluated in 142 samples collected from yams showing symptoms of mosaic and mottling and belonging to Dioscorea rotundata (52 samples), D. alata (52 samples) and D. trifida (38 samples). Samples were screened by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with universal potyvirus monoclonal antibodies (AGDIA) and by immunocapture reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (IC-RT-PCR) for the specific detection of Yam mosaic viru… Show more

“…Since then, the virus was shown to be widespread in Europe [15], Turkey [16], the Middle East [17, 18], Iran [19] and the USA [20]. In addition, it has been reported in China [21], Japan [22], and more recently in Morocco [23] and Brazil [24]. The virus has been found alone in roots of sugar beet but also in association with other soil-borne viruses transmitted by P. betae [15], in particular the benyvirus Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV), the causal agent of the rhizomania disease [25].…”
