First record of Voyria caerulea Aubl. (Gentianaceae), a mycoheterotrophic plant, in Maranhão state, northeastern Brazil

Abstract: We report the first record of Voyria caerulea from the state of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil. A fertile specimen was collected in a gallery forest during the rainy season, within the boundaries of the municipality of São Raimundo das Mangabeiras. This find contributes to the knowledge on the micoheterotrophic flora of Maranhão and expands the geographic distribution of this species in Brazil. We also present a taxonomic description, illustrations, an occurrence map of the newly found population, and an identi… Show more

“…The Gentianaceae family is relatively well represented in the Cerrado, mainly in areas with more humid soil and in open fields (Souza et al 2018). In the state of Maranhão, Gentianaceae is still poorly sampled and many species are yet to be recorded, as was done by Ferreira et al (2018) that recorded the species Voyria caerulea Aubl. for the first time in São Raimundo das Mangabeiras, a municipality located close to PEM.…”

“…The conservation of the remaining forest areas in Maranhão is of utmost importance since successive anthropic impacts could compromise the existing natural areas, leading to in the disappearance of species, or even taxa unknown to science (Koch and Araújo-Silva 2014;Rodrigues et al 2017). As observed for R. paludosa, the conservation of forest fragments and systematic floristic surveys has resulted in new records for the flora of Maranhão and the filling of some knowledge gaps (Koch and Araújo-Silva 2014;Ferreira et al 2017Ferreira et al , 2018Guarçoni et al 2018aGuarçoni et al , 2018bSilva Junior et al 2018…”
