“…On the one hand, we contribute to the academic debate about which firms benefit more from location in an innovative environment. There are grounds for arguing that the internal innovation capabilities of firms influence the benefits achieved from location in an innovative environment (Lazerson and Lorenzoni 1999;Giuliani 2005; Hervas-Oliver and Albors-Garrigos 2009), although there is no agreement about the direction of the influence (Forman et al 2008;Huang et al 2012). On the other hand, we make a step forward in analyzing STPs' influence on firms' innovation outcomes, allowing for heterogeneous, non-linear effects contingent on firms' size and innovation efforts.…”

The classification of spontaneous and policy--driven science parks can be also referred to with a controversial question about which occurs first: science parks or an established local economic and technology development environment (Appold, 2004).…”

“…Thus in order to foster entrepreneurship based research and development science parks need to understand their vital role pertaining to value chain (Phan et al, 2005). However, science parks are policy driven; government sponsored initiatives whereas others originate from spontaneous clusters (Huang et al, 2012). Today Science Parks are being perceived to be beneficial for high tech small and medium sized enterprises which are considered as the new engine of growth.…”
