Fire protection of light and massive timber elements using gypsum plasterboards and wood based panels: A large-scale compartment fire test

Abstract: A full-scale compartment fire test was performed to assess gypsum plasterboards and wood based panels as cladding materials for the fire protection of light and massive timber elements. The test compartment was constructed using both the Timber Frame and the Cross Laminated Timber techniques; a wood crib was used to achieve realistic fire conditions. Temperature measurements and optical inspection evidence suggested that gypsum plasterboards offered adequate fire protection since they did not fail and no charri… Show more

“…By the early 1960s, a high-density cement-bonded particleboard was developed leading to expanded applications (Moslemi and Pfister, 1987). Nowadays, these composites are used as exterior walls (Vohra et al, 1998;Coş ereanu et al, 2012;Kolaitis et al, 2014), roof shingles (Cooper et al, 1996) and tiles (Moslemi, 1988) for exterior applications.…”

“…3, June 2018 one is related to the departure of 1/2 mol H 2 O from hemihydrated calcium sulfate obtained after the incomplete dehydration of dihydrated calcium sulfate and from the β-hemihydrate of plaster (i.e., a phase transformation) [10], [11]. Since both the reaction steps are endothermic, the heat transfer through the gypsum-containing composite painting would be alleviated until the endothermic steps are totally completed [12]. Therefore, the gypsum-containing painting offers a trailing effect, inducing excellent thermal resistance.…”

“…Gerade in den letzten Jahren wurde häufig das Brandverhalten von BSP in ganzen Raummodulen geprüft, um deren Einfluss auf die Brandlast und das Ausbreiten des Brands in angrenzende Räume zu untersuchen . Zudem ist zu erwarten, dass die Anzahl von Versuchen mit sogenannten Flächenheizstrahlern (engl.…”
