Finite Element Analysis of Jute and Banana Fibre Reinforced Hybrid Polymer Matrix Composite and Optimization of Design Parameters Using ANOVA Technique

Abstract: During last few years, the interest in using natural fibers as reinforcement in polymers has increased significantly. Natural fibers are not only strong and lightweight but also relatively very cheap and bio-degradable. In this work, an investigation is carried out on jute fiber, a natural fiber. Jute fiber has gained interest in the composite field due to its superior specific properties compared to manmade synthetic fibers like glass, Kevlar, asbestos, etc. The present work describes the development and char… Show more

“…Vishnu Prasad et al [7] has compared the experimental and finite element results of Tensile test results, and proved the results to be closer. Also natural fiber's application has been proven in components like gears by C. M. Meenakshi [8] In this work, two types of hybrid fiber reinforced laminates are prepared with Glass/kenaf and Glass /Aloe vera by using VARTM method, and their tensile and flexural strengths are computed experimentally, and compared using Finite element Analysis (ANSYS 16.2). given in Table 1 are average of five samples tested.…”

“…Also, to improve the mechanical properties of fibers, the improvement of interfacial bonding is crucial. The alkali treatment provides superior bonding, defects reduction, reduced moisture absorption, increasing crystallinity and finer fabric [28]. High moisture absorption and weak adhesion to hydrophobic matrices was resulted from the hydrophilicity of natural fibers.…”

“…Although statistical analysis is hardly found as a primary approach in earlier green composite research, few studies dealing with natural fibers composites have recently been designed and analysed using statistical frameworks. Prasad et al [21] conducted optimization of design parameters using ANOVA to study the performance of jute and banana fibers reinforced polymer matrix. The same method also employed by Venkateshwaran et al [22] to study the effect of layering pattern to the mechanical properties of woven jute/banana hybrid composites.…”
