Film formation from polymer solution using inkjet printing method

Abstract: in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).The factors determining the thin-film shape from an evaporating polymer solution droplet are experimentally studied. The polystyrene/xylene droplets, whose diameter is controlled in the range of 30-100 mm with the mass fraction of 0.5-3.0 wt % are ejected onto a lyophobic substrate. The droplet on the substrate results in an axisymmetric or nonaxisymmetric ring-like/dot-like film. The film configuration is dominated by the evaporation rate and the film symmetr… Show more

“…For instance, the choice of solvent and ink concentration affects the evaporation rate of the ink droplet, which in term influences configuration of the printed film (i.e., dot-like or ring-like). A low evaporation rate yields small dot-like film and a fast evaporation rate results in the wide ring-like film [48]. Ink formulation also determines the spreading of the ink droplet on the substrate, which affects film uniformity and image resolution.…”

“…Recently, various authors have demonstrated an understanding of drying processes based on the evaporation parameters of inks, causing various surface topographies of printed films to manifest themselves [3]- [5]. To solve some of the observed effects, Tekin et.…”

“…Evaporation of monocomponent droplets has been studied for decades [11][12][13][14][15]. Recently, experimental and numerical investigations have been focused on multicomponent evaporation because it has more applications and its mechanism is more complicated than monocomponent droplets [2][3][4][5][6][7][16][17][18]. Among the first researchers to study multicomponent droplets, Newbold and Amundson [16] derived an accurate model to describe the evaporation of a…”
