“…The alleles of the DQA1*01 lineage combine exclusively with DQB1*06 alleles, a combination that is also observed in humans, macaques, and olive baboons (Fig. 4) (Otting et al 2016(Otting et al , 2017. The DQA1*01/DQB1*06 pairing predates the separation of hominoids and Old World monkeys and confirms the trans-species model of evolution (Doxiadis et al 2001;Klein 1987).…”

“…2). Members of the DQA1*01 and *05 lineages are also present in the olive baboon (Papio anubis) that lives in equatorial Africa, and in various macaque species that have their habitat all over Asia (Otting et al 2016(Otting et al , 2017. As a representative sample for the macaque species, the data of the longtailed macaque (Macaca fascicularis) is included in Fig.…”

“…As found in macaques, the DRB region ( Paan-DRB ) in the olive baboon shows a high level of region configuration polymorphism, whereas allelic variation appears to be absent (de Groot et al 2017a ). Furthermore, the Paan - DQ , Paan - DP , and Paan - DRA genes have been analysed by full-length cDNA sequencing, demonstrating substantial levels of allelic heterogeneity (Otting et al 2016 ).…”
