Field evaluation of the nematicide fluensulfone for control of the potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida

Abstract: BACKGROUNDThree field experiments evaluated the performance of the nematicide fluensulfone against the potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida in Shropshire, England.RESULTSExperiments 1 and 2 showed reduced root infection and lowered multiplication of G. pallida following fluensulfone (Nimitz 15G ®) soil treatments at five rates (1.95, 3.00, 4.05 (full rate), 5.05 and 6.00 kg AI ha−1) and Nimitz 480EC ® at the full rate. Experiment 3 demonstrated a positive interaction between the full rate of Nimitz 15G and t… Show more

“…), contains a [(3,4,4‐trifluoro‐3‐buten‐1‐yl)sulfonyl]‐fragment in combination with a 5‐chloro‐thiazole moiety. This slows the motility, inhibits development, egg‐laying, egg‐hatching, feeding and locomotion of plant‐parasitic nematodes (PPNs) including Meloidogyne species as well as the potato cyst nematode Globodera pallida . The structure–activity profile in fluensulfone (log P OW = 1.96) of the halogenated side chain is narrow and mainly focused on the 3,4,4‐trifluoro‐3‐buten‐1‐yl‐ or 4,4‐difluoro‐3‐buten‐1‐yl residues as outlined in Fig.…”

“…In addition, Pic-Clor 60 followed by fluensulfone de creased population densities of RKN J2 by 88% at final harvest (Castillo et al 2017). Norshie et al (2016) showed that fluensulfone decreased potato cyst nematode root infection by 43% and increased yield by 62%.…”

“…Fluensulfone was shown to be effective against Pratylenchus spp. (root-lesion nematodes) in pot experiments [32], so was against the potato cyst nematode, Globodera pallida [33] and sting nematode, Belonolaimus longicaudatus [34]. Fluensulfone also showed its efficacy on Nacobbus aberrans in pot experiments using tomato and cucumber [35].…”
