Iron deficiency is presently a serious problem in suckling piglets on pig farms. The most often used method of anaemia prevention in piglets is parenteral administration of iron dextran. Oral iron represents an alternative to this method. The goal of this article is to review current knowledge on oral iron administration in suckling piglets. The substances that can be used for this purpose include iron dextran, iron salts, iron chelates, carbonyl iron, an iron polymaltose complex and iron microparticles. Chronic toxicity of the Iron (IV) clathrochelate complexes for white rats

The article presents the results of studies of chronic toxicity of the Iron in the rare unconventional valence – IV. During long-term use of the Iron(IV) clathrochelate complexes for white rats we have established the dynamics of the body weight of rats, the relative coefficients of mass of the internal organs, the content of hemoglobin and morphological parameters of blood, biochemical parameters of blood serum of animals of this species. The daily drinking of solution of the Iron(IV) clathrochelate complexes at the doses of 500 and 1000 mg/kg b. w. resulted in a decrease in body weight, an increase in the relative indices of masses of liver and kidney, and a decrease in the relative indices of masses of spleen and heart on 30th day. The hemoglobin content in the blood of rats of the experimental group was less than the control indicator by 3–47% (P < 0.05), which is evidence of inhibition of its synthesis under the influence of the Iron (IV) clathrochelatе. Changes in the morphological composition of the blood were characterized by marked leukocytopenia. The use of rats of a solution of the Iron (IV) clathrochelate complexes at doses of 500 and 1000 mg/kg b. w. caused the development of hypoproteinemia, hypercreatinemia and hyperurinemia. Iron(IV) clathrochelate complexes reduced alaninaminotransferase activity in the serum of rats of both experimental groups by 15–80% (P < 0.05); aspartataminotransferase activity increased significantly by day 10 and decreased by day 30; the activity of alkaline phosphatase was independent of the doses of the drug during the experimental period. The content of Calcium total, Phosphor inorganic and Iron in the serum of rats of the experimental groups was at the level of indicators in the animals of the control group. Consequently, comprehensive studies of the effects of solution of the Iron (IV) clathrochelate complexes at doses of 500 and 1000 mg/kg b. w. were performed for the first time with long-term administration to white rats, which revealed the main patterns of metabolic disorders and physiological functions.

У системі токсикометричних показників надзвичайно важливим є встановлення ступеня небезпе-ки хронічної дії препаратів (кумулятивних властивостей) за умови низької інтенсивності впливу.Особливо необхідними є такі дослідження для сполук важких металів, оскільки, як відомо, вони ма-ють виражену кумулятивну здатність. Метою дослідження було вивчення кумулятивних властиво-стей Феруму з високою валентністю – IV у формі клатрохелату. Для досліджень було сформованодослідну і контрольну групи білих щурів по 6 тварин у кожній. Водний розчин клатрохелату Феру-му(ІV) в об’ємі 5 мл вводили щоденно внутрішньо за допомогою металевого зонда. Тваринам дослід-ної групи введення препарату починали з дози 500 мг/кг маси тіла, що становило 1/10 частину відмаксимальної дози. Через кожні чотири доби дозу клатрохелату Феруму(ІV) збільшували у 1,5 рази.Тваринам контрольної групи вводили ізотонічний розчин натрію хлориду об’ємом 5 мл. У результатіпроведених досліджень було встановлено індекс кумуляції досліджуваного комплексу, який стано-вить 6,88 одиниць, що вказує на його слабо виражену кумулятивну активність. Контроль за дина-мікою змін маси тіла тварин упродовж 24 діб засвідчив, що за умови щоденного введення клат-рохелату Феруму(IV) у наростаючій дозі спочатку їх масa тіла зростає, а з 12 доби знижується по-рівняно з контролем. Не виявлено значних відхилень коефіцієнтів відносної маси печінки, нирок і сер-ця, однак відносний коефіцієнт маси селезінки знизився на 41 % порівняно з контролем, що поясню-ється ймовірно розвитком атрофічних процесів у цьому органі. Клатрохелат Феруму(IV) стимулю-юче впливав на гемоцитопоез, що проявлялося збільшенням кількості еритроцитів, проте на фонізниження рівня гемоглобіну (p<0,001) та показника гематокриту у тварин дослідної групи, відпо-відно на 22,7 % та 10 % порівняно з показниками у тварин контрольної групи. У цьому разі кількістьлейкоцитів зменшувалася майже на 39,0 %, що вказувало на наявність запальних або інших патоло-гічних процесів в організмі щурів дослідної групи. Отримані результати біохімічних досліджень си-роватки крові вказували на пригнічення протеїнсинтезувальної функції в організмі щурів, підтвер-дженням чого є показники щодо активності лужної фосфатази та вміст протеїну загального і аль-бумінів. Встановлено стимуляцію глікогенолізу, оскільки показник глюкози в сироватці крові щурівзростав на 36,6 % порівняно з контролем. Зростання вмісту креатиніну на 8,6 % засвідчує про не-значні порушення функції нирок. Змін показників, що відображають функціональний стан роботибагатьох органів та систем в організмі, таких як активність аспартат- та аланінамінотрансферазі сечовини нами не встановлено. Також вміст Кальцію та Фосфору в сироватці крові щурів не змі-нювався. Вищеокреслене вказує на матеріальну кумуляцію як її різновид, що є характерним для куму-ляції важких металів.
