Field Assessment and Inheritance of Cassava Resistance to Superelongation Disease1

Abstract: Effects of superelongation disease, caused by the fungus Elsinoe Brasiliensis Zeigler and Lozano, on cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) clones (different genotypes) were studied in fields under high natural disease infection to assess value of genetic resistance and efficiency of field selection. “…Particularly, the selection input from the most stressful environment of ICA/Carimagua must have been crucial in securing tolerance to poor acid soils and disease resistances in the breeding populations, which were to be brought to Asia through seed transfer.
