“…The observations on 1241 cells are summarized in Their assumption that these were germ cells has been questioned by Tarkowski (1970) Barnes & Kruschov, 1968) and that they could have arrived subsequent to birth. Chimaeras that are presumed to have arisen naturally by vascular exchange in utero between fetuses of different sex have also been recorded in man (Race & Sanger, 1975) and in sheep, goat, horse and pig (Marcum, 1974, review by Ford, 1970;Mittwoch, 1973).…”

“…Rather they identify them as blood-borne immigrants, originating in bone marrow from a compartment in rapid turnover. At a later stage of the inflammation, the formative fibroblastic stage rather than the early exudative stage, once again the mitotic cells according to cell markers are of myeloid origin (Barnes and Khrushchov, 1968). The monocyte in inflammatory tissue is said not to undergo mitosis.…”

“…In the case of fibroblasts, the concept of local origin has been well supported in recent years by animal experiments using serial microscopy (3) augmented by radionuclide labelling (4), selective X-irradiation (5) and parabiosis (6). However, there is n o general agreement, for some workers claim that wound fibroblasts may be derived from macrophages or monocytes (7)(8)(9)(10). To reconcile these divergent views, Khruschov (1 1) has proposed the existence of two populations of fibroblast: shortlived 'trophic' cells of bone marrow lineage and longlived 'supportive' cells of local derivation.…”
