Few micrometers wide, perfectly isolating scribes in transparent conductive oxide layers prepared by femtosecond laser processing

Abstract: Laser ablation for the preparation of isolating trenches in transparent conductive oxide films on glass has been studied comparing the use of nano- and femtosecond pulses at approximately 1 mu m wavelength. By a detailed analysis of the obtained ablation craters and grooves, it can be shown that this processing, which is called P1 scribing in the field of thin film photovoltaics, can be considerably optimized with so-called "cold" ablation: Using femtosecond pulses, the P1 scribe can be done with almost rectan… Show more

“…Devices based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) are used in various applications, including electronics, information technology, biomedicine, and energy‐harvesting systems. As an alternative to the conventional photobeam/e‐beam‐/ion‐beam lithography techniques, laser direct structuring/writing (LDS/LDW) has attracted considerable interest as a simple, maskless, low‐cost method for fabricating 2D and 3D structures of different metals and their oxides . Recently, LPKF Laser & Electronics AG has demonstrated a precise and effective LDS method to produce microstructured layouts.…”

“…However, the scribing process with irradiation interval of 3 µm, shows a very good quality of groove width of 6µm and perfectly isolated. This quality can be compared with the P1 fabricated with femtosecond laser, which reported recently by Krause. et al (2014).…”
