The effect on the foetal heart rate of atropine administered intravenously to the mother is described in 51 cases. In 10 cases no foetal response was obtained within 30 minutes of injection. There was a tachycardia amounting to 10-27 per cent of the pre-test rate in 26 cases, without any initial bradycardia. In 15 cases there was either a bradycardia alone or a bradycardia followed by a tachycardia amounting to 10-29 per cent of the resting rate. The failure of the placenta to transmit atropine suggests that its function is seriously reduced. The effect of atropine, administered to the mother, on the foetal heart rate is of clinical as well as academic interest to the anaesthetist.

1º Se presenta un caso de parto a término normal con feto vivo en paciente cardiópata chagásica comprobada, que da por más de 18 meses graves manifestaciones de insuficiencia cardíaca con crisis de Stokes-Adams por bloqueo A. V., completo, a quien re le aplica un marcapaso electrónico permanente para corregirlo.2º El parto de un feto femenino de 2.600 gramos, hija de madre cardiópata chagásica, sometida desde el principio de la gestación a la acción permanente de marcapaso electrónico, fue normal y espontáneo. No se encuentran hasta el momento manifestaciones fetales achacables a T. Cruzzi.3º El estudio histológico de la placenta no revela alteraciones patológicas, y las coloraciones no demuestran presencia de flagelados.4º Se considera, de acuerdo con la investigación efectuada, que este parece ser el primer caso en la literatura mundial de parto normal espontáneo en paciente con marcapaso electrónico, colocado como tratamiento de síndrome de Stokes-Adams, por bloqueo A. V., completo.
