“…The factors predictive of successful insemination by donor spermatozoa have been identified in recent years. These are factors related to: (i) the recipient couple – the age of the woman ( CECOS Federation & Mayaux, 1982; CECOS Federation, 1993; Meyer et al ., 1996 ) and the nature of the male's infertility, azoospermia or oligo‐asthenospermia ( Emperaire et al ., 1981 ), (ii) factors to do with the insemination cycle, Insler score ( Insler et al ., 1972 ) on the day of insemination ( Schwartz et al ., 1979 ), proximity between day of insemination and presumed day of ovulation ( Schwartz et al ., 1979 ; Meyer et al ., 1996 ), and (iii) the characteristics of the spermatozoa inseminated, in particular the concentration of spermatozoa, their motility, the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa and the quality of the spermatozoa after thawing ( Jouannet et al ., 1981 ; Bostofte et al ., 1982 , 1990; Mayaux & Schwartz, 1985; Irvine & Aitken, 1986; Holland‐Moritz & Krause, 1992; Bartoov et al ., 1993 ; Clarke et al ., 1997 ).…”
