Fenugreek potent activity against nitrate-induced diabetes in young and adult male rats

Abstract: Nitrate has described as an endocrine disruptor that promotes onset of diabetes. This study was undertaken to evaluate diabetic effect of high nitrate intake in young and adult male rats and its amelioration by fenugreek administration. The study revealed significant increase in serum glucose and blood glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c%), while serum insulin and liver glycogen were decreased among nitrate exposed animals, in particular the young group. A significant reduction in the body weight gain and serum thy… Show more

“…The effects of curcumin in cardiovascular diseases are linked to its ability to (1) inhibit platelet aggregation [58], (2) inhibit inflammatory response [59], (3) lower LDL and elevate HDL [60], (4) inhibit fibrinogen synthesis [61], and (5) inhibit oxidation of LDL [62]. A review on the effect of curcumin on number of CVD risk factors is provided, which attempts to explain how this plant product acts to prevent development of CVD in the obese states [63].…”

“…fenugreek seed extract fT 3 free triiodothyronin fT 4 free dicinal herb with potent antihyperglycaemic and hypoglycaemic effects, is used to treat diabetes. This study is aimed to explore the interaction of fenugreek seed extract (FSE) and HPT (hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid) axis in context of leptin secretion which have important role in normal and type-1 diabetic subjects.…”

“…Fenugreek seed extracts (FSE) showed hypoglycaemic and anti-hyperglycaemic effects in both experimentally induced diabetic animals [3] and type-1, type-2 diabetic human trials [4]. It also mitigated diabetes-related other metabolic disorders [5].…”

“…NO 3 , NO 2 , and NO can also reduce synthesis of thyroid hormones, induce goiter, or delay amphibian metamorphosis by competitively inhibiting iodine uptake by the sodium-iodine symporter in the thyroid (De Groef et al, 2006; Tonacchera et al, 2004). Since Dr. Guillette’s original insight, the anti-thyroid effects of NO 3 have now been shown in several taxa including humans, bulls, rodents, teleosts, sharks, and amphibians (Edwards et al, 2006a; El-Wakf et al, 2015; Guillette and Edwards, 2005; Morris et al, 2011, 2012; Pearce and Braverman, 2009). …”
