Abstract-Technological advances and the search for efficiency have catalyzed recently a migration from paper-andpencil based way of doing things to computer-based in education and training at all levels with its drivers being faster administration, processing and delivery of examination results, error free marking of test items and enhanced interactivity. This research paper aims at establishing the challenges currently faced by Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) when registering candidates for national examinations as well as disseminating examinations results. A Short Message Service/Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (SMS/USSD) based mobile application using cloud infrastructure is proposed to address the challenges. Data was collected from 80 respondents consisting of teachers, parents and students whose analytical results show that current MANEB business processes have a number of irregularities that subsequently result in candidates' registration records missing or being incorrect as well as delayed access to examinations results by candidates. The proposed SMS/USSD application was tested and proved to be faster and more reliable than the traditional computer based approach that is currently being utilized.

Crop production quality and quantity can be enhanced using precision agriculture. One of the major products in India is grape. Major threats for grape farming are downy mildew and meal bug which spreads instantly and are hard to control. As the grape is very costly, Farmer needs to be very careful from the initial stage to harvesting to avoid infection of fungal disease and pest.To prevent disease farmer has to apply fungicides and pesticides in huge quantity, it results in increased cost of production. Also another disadvantage is that grapes may carry toxins. To reduce cost of production and enhance the quality and quantity of the grapes, it is important to propose some mechanism that will help the farmer to detect the disease in early stage.Existing systems for forecasting the disease mostly depends on image processing technologies. Drawback of the existing system is that they wait till symptoms appear and then only the disease can be detected. That's why such type of systems is unable to help treating the disease at an early stage. Grape diseases like downy mildew is mostly dependent upon weather based parameter like humidity, temperature and wind speed. When any favorable weather condition occurs zoospores in downy start generating spores that enters into the leaves of grape via stomata of the leaves. If favorable weather condition and the probability of disease is detected then it it very helpful for farmers to prevent infection of disease and reduce the cost of production.

This paper presents the design and development of a 16F877 microcontroller-based wireless data acquisition system and a study of the feasibility of different existing methodologies linked to field data acquisition from remote photovoltaic (PV) water pumping systems. Various existing data transmission techniques were studied, especially satellite, radio, Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). The system's hardware and software and an application to test its performance are described. The system will be used for reading, storing and analyzing information from several PV water pumping stations situated in remote areas in the arid region of the south of Tunisia. The remote communications are based on the GSM network and, in particular, on the Short text Message Service (SMS). With this integrated system, we can compile a complete database of the different parameters related to the PV water pumping systems of Tunisia. This data could be made available to interested parties over the Internet.
