Feasibility evaluation of an off‐grid solar‐biomass system for remote area electrification considering various economic factors

Abstract: Off-grid renewable energy systems are a solution for power generation in areas where access to the grid is not possible or cost-effective; in particular, low population rural areas located far away from grid lines or in rugged terrains. Furthermore, over-reliance on fossil fuels for supplying global energy demand has led to the depletion of nonrenewable resources and environmental issues. This paper presents a feasibility assessment of an off-grid hybrid renewable energy system for a remote rural area in Kohgi… Show more

“…108 Finally, the equation of 14 hourly costs is obtained by dividing the annual cost by the total working hours during a year. 109 The levelized cost of electricity (LCOE: Cent/kWh) and the levelized cost of hydrogen production (LCOH: $/kg) are defined in below equations, respectively. 50,110…”

“…Almost any type of fuel can be used in CHP, which will increase energy security, and alternative fuel can be used when one type of fuel becomes expensive or unavailable [7]. Naturally, natural gas is mostly used among fossil fuels, coal and gas oil, and after fossil fuels, among the renewable energies of municipal solid waste and biomass [8,9]. In terms of CHP power generation, their capacity is from 1 kW (electric kilowatt) to more than 500 MW (electric megawatt).…”

“…The importance of the environment increases the commitment and efforts of world politicians to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, it increases the role of new and renewable energies (Mohseni, Moosavian, & Hajinezhad, 2022). One of the most common systems of generating electricity from renewable sources is photovoltaic panels that convert solar energy into electricity (Wu et al, 2020).…”
